“The Fishing Pictures”

Saturday, April 28th, 2012

We go to the cottage usually every year in July to be with my husband’s parents. It’s about a 6 hour drive North-East of here to a beautiful spot on the Ottawa River where there is an abundance of fresh air, and fresh water – for playing, relaxing and enjoying nature. It’s remote enough to be out of touch from the rat race for a time without being too far out into the wilderness with no contact at all with the outside world.
This brings to mind those fishing shows my husband would occasionally watch in which they would highlight different styles of fishing like Bass Fishing or Fly Fishing etc. His favourite was when the hosts would journey to the remotest parts of Northern Canada and visit the wildest lakes and rivers up there in hopes of catching a Northern beauty for all to relish. Of course the show always ended in a successful fishing trip for the sake of television. Although, I’d imagine, that not all such trips end in total success.
One thing I will always marvel at is why they always let the fish go on those shows. Why would they go to the trouble of getting to such a faraway place and spend hours out there on the lake or river, and then when they finally catch a fish, they let it GO!!! I suppose if you’re only going out to catch Fishing Pictures to display for your friends and memory, it does make some sense. But I still cringe every time I watch those guys let a great looking (and probably great tasting too) fish go.
About the cottage, we have never gone fishing there ourselves. But we have heard that there are some nice sized catfish in particular to be caught in the waters of the Ottawa. Maybe this year we will take our fishing poles and spend some time out on the pier or nearby launches casting for a nice catch. But if we do catch anything, I am not letting it go!

snowing again

Saturday, April 28th, 2012

I can’t believe it was snowing again this week. But then again weather is unpredictable sometimes even though the weatherman knows it beforehand. They still make mistakes. Anyway still cold weather and heater still on. I don’t know how long it’s going to be like this. I don’t like heater and I would prefer it to be off to save some energy.

Baby strollers is important

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

I am quite amazed frankly at how far stroller technology has come since the time when I was a young person, oh, roughly twenty years ago. It’s thanks to plastics that we now have so many different options and better ones for carrying our little ones from point A to point B –everything from the classic four wheel stroller to the more robust and bigger 3 wheel ones. There are even now strollers for those who like to run and bring their babies along for the jog.
Of course, the choices are brought even closer to home with the technology of the internet so that now you can quickly and easily connect with enormous variety of brands and selections of baby strollers from JustStrollers.com for example.

apidextra

I’ve come across a good number of stories online telling about some of the more unusual ways that people are using to lose weight. For example there is one that is fairly unknown in America involving a feeding tube and inducing the body to go into “ketosis”. That’s one of the more extreme ways, but it seems to me that going to that extreme is usually unnecessary given the wealth of modern research into the causes and solutions for fat buildup in the body.
One of the benefits that has come out of the latest research into how the body accumulates fat (and therefore how to get rid of it), is that better formulations of weight-loss pills have been developed – like what you will find in apidextra. This is another way those wanting to shed those extra pounds should at least look into. And always, make sure you do your own research into any thing you are thinking about to help you lose weight.

I just saw an update for wordpress 3.3.2 again. I don’t know if I should update but I normally do it automatically without going to my host provider.

video production

Friday, April 20th, 2012

We have a problem with our dvd collection that might be familiar to many parents in the digital age.  Our son likes to watch certain dvd movies that are made for children of his age.  He gets a kick out of movies like The Little Einstein’s, Thomas the Tank Engine and others.  It’s entertaining for us too to watch our little one crack up over a silly part in one of these movies.

Anyway, the problem with our dvd collection is that our son also likes to operate the dvd player himself and of course handle the dvds himself.  It seems to be programmed deeply into children to want to do everything by themselves if they possibly can.  This is good and how children learn, but it can be uniquely problematic in the era of cds, dvds and other digital media.  They love to grab onto the actual dvd discs and smack them around as if they were one of their other plastic playthings.  And even though we were assured when cds and dvds first came out that they were “indestructible”, we all quickly discovered that that was basically not true.  (And I have broken and scratched dvds to prove it.)

Yes, I’ve had to pick up more than one cracked or completely broken dvd off the floor only to groan, Nooo…  And that’s really the issue.  It’s painful to watch a perfectly good disc destroyed by a two-year-old wrecking crew.  But then again, no one said that parenting would be easy.

Well, the other day, it dawned on me that solution to this might be to make backup copies of all of our dvds.  Easy, I thought.  I’ll just do it myself.  But then reality sunk in and the question of whether it’s even legal to do that.  And then would my personal video editing software even hold a candle up to software being used by a professional video production company?

I decided that it wasn’t worth the trouble of doing it on my own at any rate.  We’ll just have to hope that my son learns fast enough not to wreck too many more dvds.
